Sabiha <\/span>Kasimati<\/span>, biologist, scientific worker, was born in <\/span>Edrene<\/span> (<\/span>Adrianopole<\/span>) of European Turkey. <\/span>Sh<\/span>e was born in a family from Libohova. In 1927, <\/span>s<\/span>he returned to <\/span>her<\/span> homeland with h<\/span>er<\/span> family, settled in <\/span>Korça<\/span> and graduated from the National High School. She worked as a teacher in the female school in <\/span>Korça<\/span> and in the American agricultural secondary school in Kavaja (1931–1936). In 1936, <\/span>s<\/span>he began higher studies in biology (ichthyology branch) at the University of Turin. In 1941, <\/span>s<\/span>he defended h<\/span>er<\/span> doctorate and returned to <\/span>her<\/span> homeland. She worked as a biology teacher at the “<\/span><\/span>Nëna Mbretëreshë<\/span><\/span>“<\/span> (“Queen Mother”)<\/span> female institute in Tirana (1941-1945). She started working as a scientific researcher at the Institute of Studies, since its foundation (1946). <\/span>Sh<\/span>e published several scientific articles in the “<\/span><\/span>Bulletin<\/span> of<\/span> the <\/span>Scientific<\/span> Institute<\/span><\/span>” magazine. <\/span>Sh<\/span>e collected a rich material about the ichthyology of Albania, <\/span>based on<\/span> which <\/span>s<\/span>he would write a monograph. On February 20, 1951, <\/span>s<\/span>he was arrested in connection with the bomb incident at the Soviet embassy along with 21 other people arrested for the same incident. <\/span>Sh<\/span>e was shot without trial, in 1951. <\/span><\/span>(In the photo: Sabiha <\/span>Kasimati<\/span>)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
