Branko <\/span>Merxhani<\/span>, <\/span>publicist,<\/span> and sociologist, passed away in <\/span>Turkey<\/span>. He was born in <\/span>Sopik<\/span>, <\/span>Gjirokastra<\/span>, in 1894. He settled with his family abroad. He came to Albania at the end of the 20s of the 20th <\/span>century<\/span>, after completing his higher studies in philosophy. He became one of the main figures of the “mental movement of the 30s”. He first collaborated with the newspaper “<\/span>Demokratia<\/span>“<\/span> (“Democracy”)<\/span> from <\/span>Gjirokast<\/span><\/span>ër<\/span><\/span>. Branko <\/span>Merxhani<\/span>, together with <\/span>Vangjel<\/span> Koça<\/span>, Nebil Çika and other prominent figures of the mental life of the 30s, founded a new stream of Albanian political-social thought under the name “<\/span>Neoshqiptari<\/span>z<\/span>m<\/span>a<\/span>“<\/span> (“<\/span>Neoalbanianisms<\/span>”)<\/span>, which aimed to eradicate the anachronistic semi-feudal<\/span> system<\/span>, oriental <\/span>mentality<\/span> and social disunity, to build in their place a society with comprehensive cultural, spiritual, moral and educational development, under the leadership of a cultured elite. Branko <\/span>Merxhani<\/span> was in favor of a new national renaissance, which <\/span>would<\/span> bring Albania out of backwardness, <\/span>while<\/span> guided by democratic European countries. He left Albania after the fascist occupation and settled in <\/span>Turkey<\/span>, where he collaborated in some of the most popular newspapers. <\/span><\/span>(In the photo: Branko <\/span>Merxhani<\/span>)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
