Jup<\/span> Kastrati, philologist, professor, Teacher of the People, passed away. He was born in Shkodër in 1924. He attended high school in his <\/span>hometown, and<\/span> completed his higher studies at the University of Tirana, in the Albanian language and literature department. He worked for several years as a high school teacher. In the years 1958-1993, lecturer of the Albanian language at the University of Shkodra “<\/span>Luigj<\/span> Gurakuqi”, where he was also in charge of the chair (1973-1990). His scientific activity extends to several fields: history of Albanian linguistics and <\/span>Albanianology<\/span>, history of Albanian literature (especially Arbëresh literature), dialectology, Albanian and Arb<\/span><\/span>ë<\/span><\/span>r<\/span>e<\/span>sh folklore, history of the Albanian school and pedagogical thought, bibliography. He has published a number of works, such as: “<\/span><\/span>Bibliografia shqipe<\/span><\/span>“<\/span> (“Albanian Bibliography”)<\/span> (Tirana, 1959), “<\/span>Jeronim de Rada; Jeta <\/span>dhe<\/span> veprat<\/span>” <\/span>(“Jeronim de Rada, life and works”) <\/span>(Tirana, 1979), “<\/span><\/span>Historia e <\/span>gramatologjisë<\/span> shqiptare<\/span>”<\/span> (“The history of Albanian grammatical studies”)<\/span><\/span> (1635-1944)” (Pristina, 1980); “<\/span>Zef Jubani; Jeta <\/span>dhe<\/span> veprat<\/span>”<\/span> (“Zef Jubani, life and works”)<\/span> (Tirana, 1987); “<\/span><\/span>Faik Konica; Jeta dhe veprat<\/span><\/span>” <\/span>(“Faik Konica, life and works”) <\/span>(New York, 1995) etc. <\/span>Jup<\/span> Kastrati has published a series of articles and studies inside and outside the country, he has <\/span>provided assistance for<\/span> the development of activities and Albanian publications at the University of Shkodra. <\/span>Jup<\/span> Kastrati has traced and put into scientific circulation facts and writings of interest, little known or unknown, and has made aspects of the work of some Albanian language researchers and researchers to be better illuminated and appreciated.
