Llazar (Zai) Fundo, political activist, was shot without trial. He was born in <\/span>Korça<\/span>, in 1899. He completed his secondary studies at the French Lyceum of Thessaloniki, and his higher studies in jurisprudence in Paris. In 1924, he directed the periodical “Bashkimi”<\/span> (“Unity”)<\/span>. After the June Revolution, he was one of Fan Noli’s closest collaborators. With the overthrow of the Noli Government, he left for the Soviet Union. Between the years 1924-1939, he <\/span>wrote<\/span> various articles for the newspaper “<\/span><\/span>Çlirimi nacional<\/span><\/span>“<\/span> (“National Liberation”)<\/span>, directed <\/span>by him,<\/span> Fan Noli, Halim <\/span>Xhelo<\/span>, etc. After the fascist invasion of Albania, he returned to <\/span>Korça<\/span>, where he devoted himself to anti-fascist propaganda. But very soon he was arrested by the Italian <\/span>quaesture<\/span> of Tirana and deported to Ventotene, as a dangerous opponent. After the capitulation of Italy, he <\/span>returned to Albania. But, in September 1944, he was captured by the partisans in <\/span>Kolosian<\/span> in Kukës and, after being cruelly tortured, he was shot by order of Enver Hoxha as a “Trotskyist” and “renegade”. <\/span><\/span>(In the photo: Lazar Fundo)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
