The attack of the Albanians from the ambush on the side of the road in the valley of Mokra (the mouth of Radika in the Upper Dibra) was completely unexpected for the opponent. The blows of the Albanian infantry against the enemy horsemen, who were hindered by the broken country, were decisive. According to Barleti, most of the Ottoman army was killed and 760 people were captured. Before long, another Ottoman army commanded by Mustafa Pasha approached this valley. It was attacked and annihilated by surprise by Skanderbeg’s army. These victories had a great echo in other countries as well, because it happened after the defeat suffered by the Hungarian and Polish forces by the Ottomans, on 10.11.1444, in the battle of Varna. (In the photo: Illustrative photo “Skanderbeg after the victory”.)

Text: Albanian encyclopedic dictionary – Vol. 1 , Academy of Sciences of Albania, “Kristalina-KH”, Tirana, 2008, page 233.

Photo: © https://www.zgjohushqiptar.info/2020/06/skenderbeu-beteja-qe-rrenoi-osmanet.html

Graphic processing: AHCF

The “Battle of Mokra” took place, the first battle fought in the Mokra valley between the forces of the Albanian army led by Skanderbeg and the Ottoman army commanded by Firuz Pasha (of Macedonia).

[17

post-8096","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ngjarje
["GET
