In Peza, Tirana, Myslym Peza (1897–1984), democratic activist, commander of the Anti-Fascist Squad of Peza, one of the main figures of the National Liberation Anti-Fascist War and of the Albanian state, Hero of the People, was born. He participated in the democratic movement of 1920-1924. An open opponent of the monarchy. After 4 years of armed resistance, in 1930, he was forced to leave the country (to Yugoslavia), where he continued his activity in cooperation with other anti-Zogist patriots. He returned to his homeland immediately after the fascist invasion (1939) and organized the Anti-Fascist Squad of Peza (1940). He supported the political platform of the National Liberation Front and gave his help for the unification of the people around the Front and the organization of the armed struggle against the fascist invaders, turning the Peza area into an important combat base of the National Liberation movement very close to the capital. Under his leadership, the squads, battalions, and the partisan group of Peza carried out many actions and battles in this area. Myslym Peza was a participant in the First Anti-Fascist National Liberation Conference of Peza, which was held in his home. The conference elected him a member of the National Liberation General Council (1942); at the 2nd Conference of the General National Liberation Council (1943), in Labinot, he was elected a member of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation Council and vice-chairman of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation Committee, while at the second meeting of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation Council, in Berat (1944), he was appointed vice-chairman of the Democratic Government of Albania. Member of the Labor Party of Albania since 1952. Deputy in the People’s Assembly and vice-president of the Presidium of the People’s Assembly in all legislatures (1946–1984).
