At the border by the Serbian police, during an attempt to cross into Macedonia was killed Fehmi Agani, a sociologist, professor, academic, political activist, and Hero of Kosovo. He was born in Gjakova. He attended high school in Pristina, attended higher studies, and graduated in philosophy from the University of Belgrade (1959), where he also completed post-graduate studies in political science (1965). He served in secondary education in Pristina and at the same time as a sociology lecturer at the University of Pristina (1965), editor of foreign policy in the newspaper “Rilindja”, director of the Albanian Institute of Pristina (1967-1970), dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Pristina, where he completed his doctorate in sociology (1973). Fehmi Agani has played an essential role in the creation, independence, and democratization of Kosovo’s scientific, cultural, and national institutions, such as the Albanian Institute, the University, and the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo. He was one of the founders of the branch of sociology and philosophy at the University of Pristina, of the Institute of Sociology, editor-in-chief of the magazines “Studia Humanistica” and “Thema”. From 1968, he was among the ideologues of the project for Kosovo’s independence, working on it until the end of his life. Following ideological and political differences after the 1981 demonstrations, he was excluded from the educational process due to his stance on national issues (1984). Fehmi Agani was the vice president of the Democratic League of Kosovo since its foundation. He was among the main negotiators in all international forums where the issue of Kosovo was discussed, from the Hague Conference to the Rambouillet Conference, and one of the most active supporters of the armed resistance. During the NATO bombing campaign, Fehmi Agani stayed illegally in Pristina from March 24 to May 6, 1999, when the Serbian police killed him. A part of Fehmi Agani’s scientific legacy was published in 2002 in 8 volumes:  “Në rrjedha të mendimit sociologjik” (In streams of sociological thought), “Demokracia, kombi, vetëvendosja” (Democracy, nation and self-determination), “Partitë the grupet politike në Shqipëri” (Parties and political groups in Albania), “Gjuha e dhunës the zëri i arsyes” (The language of violence and the voice of reason), “Pavarësia – gjasa the shpresë” (Independence-Hopes and Chances)  etc. (In the photo: Fehmi Agani)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
