Ali Hadri

Ali Hadri, historian, professor, academic, was born in Fier-Shegan, Lushnjë. He completed high school in Gjakova, while he completed his history studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade (1956). He defended his doctorate at the University of Prishtina in 1970. He was a professor at the University of Prishtina, dean of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Prishtina, editor-in-chief of the magazines “Përparimi”, “Gjurmime albanologjike” (the historical series) and the magazine “Kosova” of the Institute of History. He was the first director of the Institute of History of Kosova and among the founding members of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosova (1975). He was a delegate in the Provincial Assembly, chairman of the League of Historians of Yugoslavia, member of many editorial offices and professional forums of historians of the former Yugoslavia. He is the author of several scientific monographs, special studies and textbooks on the history of the Albanian people, among which: “Pasqyrë e historisë nacionale shqiptare” (“Overview of Albanian national history”) (co-author Milan Perkaj, 1960), “Krahina Autonome e Kosovës” (“Autonomous Region of Kosova”) (co-author Dushan Pejanovic, 1967 ), “Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu dhe epoka e tij” (“George Castriota Skanderbeg and his era”) (1968), “Lëvizja Nacionalçlirimtare në Kosovë 1941–1945” (“National Liberation Movement in Kosova 1941–1945″) (1971), ), “Kritikë historiografike I” (“Historiographical criticism“) (1973), “Gjakova në Lëvizjen Nacionalçlirimtare” (“Gjakova in the National Liberation Movement“) (1974), “Ali Kelmendi (1900–1939)” (1984), and the posthumously published work “Marrëdhëniet shqiptaro-jugosllave” (“Albanian-Yugoslav relations“) (2003). Most of these monographs were also published in the serbo-croatian languages. Ali Hadri also wrote a series of articles on problems of the contemporary history of the Albanian people, the history of Kosova between the two world wars, the history of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation Movement of Kosova and Albania, and developed scientific controversies with Serbian and Yugoslav historians about the new history of the Albanian people, especially around the Anti-Fascist National Liberation Movement in Kosova and Albania. After the demonstrations of 1981, he was dismissed from his position as the director of the Institute of History, was dismissed from his job at the University of Prishtina, and was accused of being a nationalist by the authorities.
