Father Bernardin Palaj, martyr of the Catholic Church, was born in Shkodër. He attended all the schools of the Friars Minor of Shkodra, he attended high school in Salzburg and Philosophy and Theology in Innsbruck, Austria. He was ordained a priest on August 2, 1918. He taught Albanian and Latin at the Illyricum high school of the Friars Minor. He worked in the parishes of Toplana, Palçi, Shala, Bushkash, Plani and Rubik. He was arrested in Rubik and imprisoned in Shkodër, on October 22, 1946. He died of torture in Shkodër prison in 1946. (Photo: Bernardin Palaj)
