Dom Ejëll Kovaçi, a Catholic cleric, was executed by firing squad. He was born in Hajmel, Zadrima, in 1920. He was one of the clerics who refused to sign the Statute of the Catholic Church. In 1957, after several years of service in the parish of Koman, he was transferred to the parish of the village of Qelëz (Shkodër). On August 21, 1958, he was arrested for the third time, accused of “organizing and carrying out terrorist acts with the aim of assassinating the state security activist, Comrade Mark, within the Qelëz village church, in collaboration with spies and saboteurs, on the night of November 26, 1951, and preparing to flee the country.” In November of the same year, he was tried in the “Republika” cinema hall, and on November 10, 1958, he was sentenced to death by firing squad.
