Emanuele Giordano, researcher, one of the most important personalities of Arbëresh culture, passed away in the hospital of Lungro (Italy). He was born in Frascineto, Calabria, Italy, in 1920. In his hometown, he completed primary school, then went to Hora e Arbëreshëve ( Italian: Piana degli Albanesi) gymnasium. In 1933, he continued his studies at the Grotaferrata Seminary (Rome) where he studied philosophy and theology. Emanuele Giordano was an expert and attentive researcher of philology, Italian and Arbëresh literature, as well as the author of many important works, among which we mention: “Fjalori i Arbëreshvet t’Italisë” (“The vocabulary of the Arbëresh of Italy”) (1963); “Shpata e Skanderbekut nde Dibrët Poshtë” (“The sword of Skanderbeg from Dibra and below”) (1967); “Alfabetizzazione Arbëreshe” (Arbëresh writing and reading, 2000). In 1972, he directed the cultural magazine “Zëri i Arbëreshvet” ( La voce degli Albanesi d’Italia) (“The voice of Arbëresh”), as well as collaborated with Ernest Koliqi’s magazine “Shejzat” and Albino Greco’s “Zgjimi” (“The awakening”) magazine. With the initiative undertaken by the Center for Studies and Publications for Arbëresh (CSPA), from 2020, one of the streets of Tirana bears the name “Emanuele Giordano”.
