Fatos Baxhaku was born in Tirana, journalist, historian, publicist and teacher, a sharp critic of the Albanian transition. He completed 8 years of education and secondary education in his hometown. During the years 1982-1986, he studied at the University of Tirana at the Faculty of History and Philology, where he graduated in the field of history. From 1986 to 1992 he worked at the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences. From 1993 to 1998 he was co-founder, editor-in-chief and journalist of “Gazeta shqiptare” (“The Albanian Newspaper”). In the period 1998-1999, he was the first news editor-in-chief at “Klan” television. In 1999-2000 he was the editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine “XXL”. From 2001 to 2005, he was editor-in-chief and journalist at “Vizion Plus” television. In 2006-2015 he was the editor-in-chief and journalist in the daily “Shqip”. From 2015, he worked as a freelance journalist. Fatos Bazhaku also left his mark in the field of publishing with a series of books, such as: “Shoqëritë e masave fisnore të Shqipërisë së Veriut”( “The societies of the tribal masses of Northern Albania”), “Guidë për Shkodrën” (“Guide for Shkodra”), “Në Mirditë dhe rreth e rrotull” (“”In Mirdita and its surroundings”), “Roje”(“Guard”), “Çadra e kuqe: histori fatesh austro-shqiptare në shekujt XIX–XXI” (“”The Red Umbrella: History of Austro-Albanian Fates in the XIX-XXI Centuries”) etc. Fatos Baxhaku is the author or co-author of series with reports, as well as of many television documentaries. External lecturer of journalism at the universities of Elbasan and Tirana. Member of the Albanian Committee of Helsinki. Collaborator in many training projects with Soros, USAID, the Albanian Media Institute and OSCE (Organization of State Broadcasting Executives ). He passed away in 2019. (In the photo: Fatos Baxhaku)
