Fiqri Dine

Fiqri Dine, soldier, political activist, minister and prime minister, passed away in Brussels, Belgium. He was born in Maqellare in Dibër, in 1897. He attended high school in Dibër and continued his studies at the aspirants’ course in Shkodër and then at the Vienna Military Academy. He returned to the country and completed the gendarmerie course in Tirana. He was appointed commander of the mobile battalion Krujë-Mirditë; in 1921, officer with the rank of lieutenant in the Albanian National Army, then district commander in Mat and Peshkopi. During the Democratic Revolution of June 1924 he supported the government forces and, after its suppression, he was appointed to important military duties, as the commander of the Puka Zone and then the commander of the North Zone. In December 1928 he was sent to study in Turin. In the period of the monarchy, he was appointed commander of the First Group in Tirana, commander of the regiment in Berat and in 1936, inspector of the army near the Royal Court. During the period of the Italian occupation, he was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs in the government of Ekrem Libohova (1943): during the German occupation, he was prime minister from 18.07.- 28.08.1944.
