Ofelia Giudicissi, an Arbëresh poet, writer, and archaeologist, was born in Puhëriu (Italian: Pallagario) in Calabria. She came from a modest family and was the seventh of ten children. In 1964, she published her first literary work, “Pallagorio,” a poetry book entirely inspired by her fellow townspeople, with whom she had a strong bond. She was also very active in the field of archaeology, particularly in the area where she was born, where she conducted various research studies on the exact etymology of the city’s name. During the time she was writing her last book titled “Momenti di un profilo meridionale,” she passed away at the age of 47. The work was published posthumously by her husband and two children in 1996. (In the photo: Ofelia Giudicissi)
