Peter R. Prifti, historian, linguist, publicist, translator, was born in Rehove, Kolonje and emigrated to the United States of America (1940). He completed his postgraduate studies ( bachelor , 1949) and master’s degree in philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania (1955). Secretary of the Pan-Albanian Federation “Vatra” (“Hearth”)(1958-1960) in Boston. He worked at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology ), in Cambridge (in the Department of International Studies with a focus on Albania, 1961-1976). Albanian language consultant at the Faculty of Linguistics, University of California in San Diego (1976-1980). Author of books: “Socialist Albania since 1944: Domestic and Foreign Development” Cambridge Mass, 1978; “Remote Albania: The politics of isolation”, Tirana, 1999. He has published a collection of articles and political and linguistic studies “Confrontation in Kosova: The Albanian-Serb Struggle 1969–1999″, Columbia University NY, 1999; “Gjuha është organizëm i gjallë” (“Language is a living organism”)(Tirana, 1995). Co-author in the work ” Standard Albanian; A reference Grammar for students “, Stanford, California, 1982. He has compiled several entries that belong to Albania in the British Encyclopedia. He was decorated with the “Naim Frashëri” order of Class I. Since 1980, he was a freelancer. He passed away in San Diego (California) in 2010. (Photo: Peter R. Prifti)
