Qamil Grezda, painter, died in Tirana. Grezda belongs to the Albanian artists who studied at the Italian academies in the first half of the 20th century (1938–1943). He was born in Gjakovë, in 1917. He is primarily a realist painter, who created his works in the period of socialist realism (1944–1990). Mainly inclined towards nature, the painter Qamil Grezda devoted himself to landscape and realistic portraiture. He completed his primary school and part of his secondary education in Shkodra. In 1936, Qamil Grezda went to the School of Drawing in Tirana. The parents sent Grezda to Foggia (Italy) to study agronomy or finance, but he won the admission competition to the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. After graduation, he returned to Albania, and after the end of the war, Grezda was appointed as a scenographer at Radio-Theatre “Tirana.” During 1948-1953, he was the director of the Museum of the National Liberation War in Tirana, and then a teacher at the artistic high school “Jordan Misja”, the pedagogical high school, the State Philharmonic, etc. The collection of Qamil Grezda’s works is kept in the funds of the National Art Gallery, Tirana, and in the collection of the painter’s family.
