Sali (Vranishti) Murati, democratic patriot and fighter against the Ottoman and Italian invaders, squads commander, Hero of the People, passed away. He was born in Vranisht, Vlora, in 1880. For his patriotic activity, he was persecuted, arrested and sentenced to severe imprisonment. He was able to escape from the fortress of Ioannina, where he was serving his sentence. In the years 1908–1909, his detachment carried out several actions against the Ottoman posts in Shushicë, Armen and elsewhere, and in August 1912, it opened the prison of Vlora. The government of Ismail Qemal Vlora (1912) appointed him commander of public security. As such, he performed important tasks for maintaining peace in the country, fought against the Greek chauvinists who had infiltrated the southern regions of the country, especially in the Delvina basin, against the separatist movement headed by Spiro Milo, where together with Çerçiz Topulli they liberated Castle of Borsh. He took part in the Vlora War (1920), at the head of Rrëza’s detachments, of 250 people; was wounded in the fighting in Kanina. He participated in the Democratic Revolution of June 1924 and commanded a battalion. War wounds caused his death in 1926. (In the photo: Sali Murati)
