In the village of Piana degli Albanesi, the province of Palermo (Sicily), Sotir Ferrara was born, a personality of the clergy and Arbëresh culture. He became a priest on November 19, 1960. Sotir Ferrara is considered “the master of the Byzantine liturgy of the Arbëresh tradition”, as he influenced the spiritual and social unity of the Arbëresh residents during his 25 years of work as despot (bishop) of the Hora Eparchy of Arbëresh. He was a professor of mathematics and scientific subjects, as well as the director of the Byzantine choir of Saint Mitra’s Cathedral, which was composed of the Arbëresh of Sicily.
