The 1st Congress of Bektashis was gathered in the Tekke of Prishta (Skrapar). The initiative to organize the congress was taken by the bektashian fathers Ahmet Turhani, Hysen Prishta and some Albanian intellectuals, based on the Statute of the Congress of Lushnja (1920). The congress was attended by fathers of 37 religious groups and supporters of the bektashis. There, the was created the “Bektashi Association” and was approved its statute with 28 articles. The statute defined the organization and activity of the bektashis in Albania. The Patriarchal Council, consisting of 17 people, was designated as the highest body. The Congress decided on the creation of the general fund and the opening of the bektashi school in the Tekke of Suka. At the meeting of Përmet (1921) the Holy Patriarchal Council decided to declare independence, or autocephaly, which was recognized by the Parent in Turkey. (In the photo: Tekke of Prishta)
