The Literary Commission of Shkodër began its work. The commission continued its activity until 1918. Its primary goal was the cultivation of the Albanian language and the development of artistic literature. In its first year, the commission published a temporary Albanian periodical, *Lajmet e Komisisë Letrare Shqipe* (“News of the Albanian Literary Commission”), which addressed all issues related to the cultivation, progress, and flourishing of the Albanian language. The members of the Literary Commission of Shkodër included Gjergj Pekmezi (chairman of the commission), Luigj Gurakuqi, Ndre Mjeda, Mati Logoreci, Sotir Peci, Hilë Mosi, Aleksandër Xhuvani, Gjergj Fishta, and others. The commission represented the fulfillment of the wish expressed by the Congress of Manastir to hold another congress within two years “for the orthography and literature of the Albanian language.” The decisions of the commission resonated in the press of the time, both domestically and in publications emerging from Albanian communities abroad. These decisions had a longevity of nearly 50 years and, with rare exceptions, were implemented in official bodies, school textbooks, the press of the era, and more.
