Vinçenc Stratigo

Lexo ngjarje:

Vincenzo Stratigo, Arbëresh poet, passed away. He was born in Lungro in the province of Cosenza, in 1822. He studied at the College of Saint Adrian in Saint-Mitri (Calabri), where he was a student of Jeronim de Rada. As a Garibaldian, he actively participated in the Italian liberation movement. His poems in the Albanian language “Merori” (Bersalieri) and “Proletari” (Lament for the death of the one who does not have), although they were not published during the poet’s lifetime, showed that Arbëresh poetry was becoming sensitive to notes of protest openly against social inequality. Other poems by Vincenzo Stratigo dealt with the motif of love. Some of them became popular and are still sung today. In the Italian poem ” L’Albanese ” (“Albanian”) Vincenzo Stratigo evokes the history of Albania and the virtues of Albanians. (In the photo: Vincenc Stratigo)
