He was born in Prizren (Kosova). Zef Mirdita is a historian, and professor. External member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosova. He graduated from the classical high school in his hometown. He completed higher studies and graduated in history at the University of Zagreb (1965). Since 1966, lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Prishtina for ancient history and Latin language. From 1993 he worked in Zagreb. He completed specializations in Italy (University of Rome) and in Germany (Heidelberg, Munich). In addition to teaching, Zef Mirdita has developed research-scientific activities in the ancient history of Albania, especially of the Dardanians. He has published the monographs: “Dardanci i Dardanija u antici “, Zagreb, 1972 (“The Dardanians and Dardania in ancient times”); “Studime dardane” (Dardanian studies”) (Prishtinë, 1979; Tiranë, 1982), “Antroponimia e dardanisë në kohën remake” (“ The anthroponymy of Dardania in Roman times”) (Prishtina, 1981) (also published in German, 1982), Mitet dhe mitologjia në antikë” (Prishtinë, 1988), “Krishtenizmi ndër shqiptarët” (“Christianity among Albanians”) (Prizren, 1998) and “Religion und Kulte der Dardaner und Dardaniens in der Antike” , Zagreb, 2001 (“Religion and cults of the Dardanians and Dardania in ancient times”).
