Father Karl Serreqi, martyr of the Catholic Church, was born in Shkodër. Studied theology at the College of Pescia (Pescia, Italy). He was ordained a priest in Torricchio of Pescia, on June 29, 1936. He was a parish priest in Curraj i Epërm (1937–1939), Berishë (1939–1943) and Rajë (1943–1946), in the area of Tropoja. He was arrested in Rajë, on October 9, 1946. He was imprisoned in Shën Gjergj of Dukagjin and then in Shkodër. On January 18, 1947, he was sentenced to death by hanging. On February 24, 1947, the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment and forced labor in Maliq in Korça, and then in the terrible prison of Burrel, where he died of a heart attack.
