In Gjirokastër, the first issue of the newspaper “Drita”, a weekly political and social newspaper, was published. It continued publication until the 197th issue. Director and editor was Veli Hashorva. He took a patriotic stance and was ranked as the most progressive wing of the time. He arose against the Italian occupation of Vlora (1920). In the political and social life of the country, he supported the struggle of liberal democrats for the economic and social construction of the country according to the model of the political system of Western European countries.
