In Tirana, Halil Alidema passed away, a political activist, founder, and leader of the National Unity Party in Kosova. He was born in the village of Pozheran (today Poshtan) in the municipality of Vitia (Kosova), on March 15, 1936. He attended the normal school in Prishtina and served in education. He came into conflict with the Serbian government, he was sentenced twice by the judicial bodies, but he did not stop his patriotic activity. In 1968, after raising the national flag and celebrating November 28 in his village school, he was forced to move and settle in Prishtina. There he completed the Faculty of Law and then postgraduate studies in the branch of history (1979), publishing several articles related to the period of the Eastern Crisis and the Treaty of San Stefano (1878). In November 1981, he was arrested and sentenced to 11 years in prison, as a member of the “group of Albanian intellectuals” and for involvement in the demonstrations of 1981. He was involved in the initiatory council for the formation of the Democratic League of Kosova, then formed the Albanian National Unity party and was elected its chairman. He worked on forming guerilla units called “Shqiponjat e Lirisë”, which would operate in Kosova. Because of this activity, he was forced to leave Kosova for North Macedonia (September 1991) and, after two months, in Albania where he helped to create the National Unity Party in Albania.
