Tonin Harapi, composer, People’s Artist, passed away in Tirana. He was born in Shkodër in 1928. He started playing music in elementary school. Completed the “Jordan Misja” Artistic Lyceum and attended higher education in composition at the “PI Tchaikovsky” Conservatory in Moscow (1959-1961); graduated in 1964 from the State Conservatory of Tirana, where he was also a teacher. He has composed almost in all musical forms and genres, from song to concert, symphonic and operatic music. Among his many works, his vocal lyrics and piano miniatures stand out, which are part of the active Albanian pedagogical and concert repertoire and where his creative tendency was consolidated with a sensitive romantic expression. Among his other works, notable ones include Rhapsody No. 1 (1967), Concerto No. 1 for Piano and Orchestra (1969), and the opera “Zgjimi” (The Awakening) (1975). (In the photo: Tonin Harapi)
