Androniqi (Antoniu) Zengo, iconographic painter, was born in Korça. She learned the art of iconography from her father, Vangjeli. Together they painted the church of Saint Mary in Korça, in 1928, and in 1930, the church of Saint Kolli in Hoçisht. Andromaqi later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens. During the summer holidays she worked on the decoration of churches. In 1933, she equipped the church of Saint Triadha with icons. In the years 1929–1945 Andromaqi Zengo painted in five churches in the district of Korça. In 1960, she worked on the icons of the church of Palasa in the district of Vlora. In the years 1964-1965, she masterfully created the frescoes of the Cathedral of the Evangelization in Tirana, which had just been built and was going to be inagurated from the Archbishop of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of America, Monsignor Theofan Noli. These frescoes are painted in the Russian style. The Pantocrator is painted on the dome of the cathedral, while the four evangelists and the four angels are painted around it. The special thing about Andromaqi Zengo’s frescoes is that the names of the saints are written in Albanian. (In the photo: Androniqi Zengo)
