Loro Kovaçi, actor, People’s Artist, passed away in Tirana. He was born in Shkodër, in 1903. During the years 1923-1926, he was a member of the “Bogdani” society. Then he created his own theater group, which operated until 1939. In that period, Loro Kovaçi performed several historical figures, such as Moses Golem, Skenderbeu and Lekë Dukagjin. In 1947, Loro Kovaçi started playing at the People’s Theater, where he worked until the end of his life. In the role of Bejtash Syla (“Halili dhe Hajrija” by Kolë Jakovo, 1952) his experience in the interpretation of historical roles was evident. He became particularly known for his role as Tuç Makut (1954) in the drama “Toka jonë” (Kolë Jakova). He portrayed artistic figures on stage with a high level of skill and national character. He also achieved success in roles from world dramatists, such as the judge and prefect in “Revizori” by Nikolai Gogol (1952), Othello and Claudius in “Othello” (1953) and “Hamlet” (1960) by Shakespeare. He also acted in films such as “Bijtë e saj,” “Debatiku,” “Toka jonë,” “Komisari i dritës,” etc., where he particularly excelled in character roles. (In the photo: Loro Kovaçi)
