NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) military forces were deployed in Kosovo. From this moment, Kosovo was placed under the administration of the United Nations Organization. The French diplomat Bernard Kushner (Bernard Kouchner) was appointed at the head of the international administration (UNMIK – United Nations Mission in Kosovo), with the capacity of the special representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization. Based on Resolution 1244 approved by the Security Council, the Serbian army had to leave Kosovo, but the Kosovo Liberation Army had to surrender its weapons and demilitarize. Its forces would be included with the “Kosovo Defense Forces”. (Pictured: American troops, part of NATO forces.)
