The first issue of the newspaper “Kombi” (1906-1909), a weekly political, social and literary newspaper in Albanian, partly in French, Italian and English, was published in Boston, United States of America. 110 issues followed until 1909. Sotir Peci directed it. It was the first newspaper of Albanians in America with a patriotic program related to the National Renaissance. He took a critical stance towards the Young Turks, exposed the intentions of the neighboring states, as well as the policy of Austria-Hungary and Italy towards Albania, supported Albania’s autonomy. The newspaper “Kombi” propagated the need to unite the political societies of the Albanian colony of the United States of America in a single organization and supported the Albanian national movement. It also presented the activity of Albanian emigrants in the United States of America. Fan S. Noli (for some time also as an editor under the pseudonym Ali Baba Qyteza), Mihal Grameno, Kristo Dako, etc. worked together in the “Kombi” newspaper. (In the photo: “Kombi” newspaper page.)
