Lec Shllaku

Lec Shllaku, a publicist and writer, passed away in Paris. He was born in Shkodër in 1913. In his hometown, he attended the Franciscan school and later completed the “Normal” school in Elbasan. He served as a teacher in Vlora, Himarë, and Përmet from 1934 to 1937. In 1937, he began his higher studies at the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Florence and remained in Italy until 1958.  That year, he moved to Paris, where he lived until the end of his life. Shllaku collaborated with newspapers and magazines of the Albanian diaspora, such as “Shenjëzat” (“The Signs”), “Shqiptari i lirë” (“The Free Albanian”), “Dielli” (“The Sun”), “Jeta katolike” (“Catholic Life”), “Drita e vërtetë” (“The True Light”), and “Ndërgjegja” (“Conscience”). In these publications, he wrote numerous articles, pamphlets, and commentaries addressing issues related to art and Albanian culture. Lec Shllaku also published the magazines “Kombi shqiptar” (“Albanian Nation”) and “Shkumbini” (1955-1956). He directed the political, cultural, and social magazine “Koha jonë” (“Our Time”) from 1962 to 1992, which circulated in France and abroad. Additionally, he authored the nonfiction book “Skanderbeg” (1983), focusing on historical themes. Since 1971, he was a member of the European Community of Journalists organization.
