Naim S. Frashëri, a theater and film actor, People’s Artist, and Hero of Socialist Work, was born in Leskovik. He began his theater journey during high school in Tirana and later performed in the partisan theater. In May 1945, with the establishment of the State Theater (now the National Theatre), he started his professional career. A powerful dramatic actor known for his sensitivity and explosive temperament, Frashëri created over 80 characters, embodying both tragic and romantic heroes from Albanian and world dramaturgy. His notable theater roles included Hamlet (Shakespeare), Selimi and Jonuzi in “Familja e peshkatarit” (“The Fisherman’s Family”) by Sulejman Pitarka, General in “Gjenerali i ushtrisë së vdekur” (“General of the Dead Army”) by Ismail Kadare, Shpendi in “Mbi gërmadha” (“Over the Ruins”) by Fadil Paçrami, Ferdinand in “Intrigë dhe dashuri” (“Intrigue and Love”) by Schiller, Edgar in “Mbreti Lir” (“King Lear”) (Shakespeare), and Xhaxha Vanja by Anton Chekhov, among others. In film, he portrayed Pali in “Skënderbeu” (1953), the Teacher in “Fëmijët e saj” (“Her Children”) (1956), Stefani in “Tana” (1957), Qemali in “Furtuna” (“The Storm”) (1959), Doctor Artani in “Gjurma” (“The Trace”), and Surgeon in “Plagë të vjetra” (“Old Wounds”), among others. Naim S. Frashëri’s acting is distinguished by its authenticity in expressing joy, human suffering, and sorrow. He exhibited expressive facial features, a wide-ranging and resonant voice, and a warm human timbre. As a master of analysis, he had a profound appreciation for the inner world of characters and their dramatic states, effectively revealing their shaken psyches and spiritual turmoil, especially among Albanian characters, who often displayed a realistic, deeply human, and convincing nature. Frashëri greatly contributed to the strengthening of the national character of Albanian theater and played a vital role in training young actors as a lecturer in the dramatic department at the High Institute of Arts (now the Academy of Arts). He was honored with the Republic Award of the First Class and passed away in 1975. (In the photo: Naim S. Frashëri)
