Daut Gumeni, diplomat and writer, was born in the village of Gusmar in Tepelena. On September 21, 1967, the District Court of Gjirokastra declared him guilty of “the crime of treason against the homeland in the form of fleeing the country” and sentenced him to 20 years of imprisonment, the loss of electoral rights for 5 years, and the confiscation of wealth. On March 27, 1970, the District Court of Tepelena declared him guilty of the “crime of agitation and propaganda”, and ultimately sentenced him to 25 years of imprisonment and the loss of electoral rights for 5 years.
