Turhan Pasha Përmeti (1839–1927), diplomat of the Ottoman Empire and high-ranking political official of the Albanian state, passed away. He was born in Përmet. He completed his education at the ‘Zosimea’ Gymnasium in Ioannina. His political career began as a secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Istanbul, after which he was appointed as the Ottoman Empire’s ambassador to several European countries. He served as Prime Minister of the Albanian government from March–August 1914 and again from December 1918 – January 1920. He was the head of the Albanian delegation (January 1919 – January 1920) at the Paris Peace Conference, where he presented the demands of his government, aimed at preserving the independence and territorial integrity of the Albanian state. Turhan Pasha Përmeti’s government was overthrown by the Congress of Lushnja due to its pro-Italian orientation. (In the photograph: Turhan Pasha Përmeti as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister)
