Xhemil Demiraj, serviceman, died in Durrës. He was born in Kuç, Vlora, in 1905. In 1929, he completed the Carabinieri School in Florence, Italy. After returning to his homeland, he served in Gjirokastër, Shkodër, Durrës and Peshkopi. During the years 1942-1944 he served at the Ministry of War. In October 1944, he left for Shkodër. Aligned with the anti-communist resistance forces that fought in the mountains of the North. He was arrested in Valbona. After spending a year and a half in the interrogation offices, on September 6, 1946 he was sentenced to death by firing squad; later, his sentence was commuted to 30 years in prison. He worked in the Jube Sukthi swamp, the Peqin-Kavajë canal, Maliq-Orman-Pojan, Vlashuk, the Kuçova military airport, the Vjosë-Levan-Fier canal and in Zadrimë. He was released in 1960.
