Hamid Shijaku was born a participant of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, Hero of the People. He was born in Tirana, in a family circle with patriotic feelings. From a young age, he embraced communist ideas. Hamid had set up a sports club called “Tomorrow.” Its members were workers, typographers, carpenters, school students, etc. His bookstore in the capital 1938-1939, became a meeting place for young people with progressive and revolutionary views. He participated in the April 1939 demonstrations against the fascist occupation and was one of their organizers. For a while he emigrated abroad, where he worked as a metallurgical worker. Upon returning to Albania (1941), he became closely connected with the communists Vasil Shanto, Qemal Stafa, Ali Demi, Myslym Shyri, through whom he met Enver Hoxha at the “Flora” store. Member of the Albanian Communist Party since its establishment. He participated in the guerilla units of the capital. He was caught off guard and the fascist military court sentenced him to death, hanging him at the age of 24, on March 2, 1942. (In the photo: Hamid Shijaku)
