Idriz Seferi (1847–1927), popular military leader of the national movement, passed away. He was born in the village of Sefer in the Karadak province of Skopje. From a young age, he participated in the people’s resistance against the economic and national oppression of the Tanzimati reforms. In 1875, he was imprisoned by the Ottoman authorities. He took part in the assemblies and military actions of the Albanian League of Prizren (1878) and that of Peja (1899). He was one of the main leaders of the Kosova uprising of 1910. He was noted for his fighting skills, as a popular strategist in the battle of Kaçanik, as well as in the battles of Karadak (Drenogllava) and Morava. He stood out as one of the leaders of the general anti-Ottoman Uprising of 1912 in Kosova, during which he participated in the military actions for the liberation of Skopje, Kumanovo, Gjilan, Presheva and Ferizaj. In October 1912, after the outbreak of the Balkan War, at the head of thousands of Albanian fighters, he fought against the Serbian invaders in the regions of Bujanoci, Gollak, Llap and Kumanovo, causing significant losses to the Serbian army. He led the Albanian detachments of Kosova in the war against the Serbian yoke in the years 1913-1915 and against the Bulgarian invaders in the years 1916-1918. He continued the fight for the national liberation of Kosova and other Albanian territories in Yugoslavia, until the end of his life. (In the photo: Idriz Seferi)
