In the village of Orizare in Kumanova, Ismet Jashari was born, a fighter of the Kosova Liberation Army, Commander “Kumanova”, Hero of Kosova. He started high school in Kumanova and finished it at the gymnasium in Presheva. At that time he was included in the illegal ranks of the People’s Movement for the Republic of Kosova. In August 1988, he immigrated to Switzerland and continued his patriotic activity. In March 1998, he joined the ranks of the Kosova Liberation Army. He was initially stationed at the Headquarters of the Kosova Liberation Army in Likoc, Drenica, then assigned to military duty in the Area of Llapusha. In the Kosova Liberation Army ranks, he became known as “Kumanova”. In May 1998, he took part in the battles around the Llapushnik Gorge, while on June 17, with his comrades, he launched an attack against the Serbian forces, which were trying to penetrate in the direction of Luzhnica. He fought in the defense of the positions of the Kosova Liberation Army during the Serbian offensive of July 25 and 26, 1998, in the gorge of Llapushnik and in the village of Zborc, near the gorge of Carraleva. On August 23, 1998, when the Serbian army launched an attack in the direction of Kleçka, where the General Staff of the Kosova Liberation Army was also located, he organized resistance in Bajrak of Luzhnica. In the early morning of August 25, he launched a counterattack in an attempt to retrieve the bodies of the fallen soldiers. After several hours of fighting in Luzhnica, Ismet Jashari was martyred. In his honor, the 121st Brigade of the Pashtrik Operative Zone of the Kosova Liberation Army was named “Ismet Jashari – Kumanova”. His statue has been erected in Prizren, near the house of the Albanian League of Prizren. In 2009, the President of the Republic of Kosova decorated him with the “Hero of Kosova” order.
