Haxhi Lleshi

In Reshan of Dibra, Haxhi Lleshi, chairman of the Presidium of the People’s Assembly in the years 1953-1982, a participant in the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, Hero of the People, was born. He opposed the fascist occupation and jumped into the war for the liberation of the homeland, at first as commander of the Dibra partisan squad (1942), then of the Dibra Battalion (1943). He played an important role in the unification of the people of the province around the National Liberation Front, in its mobilization in the war, in the expansion of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War in the Great Dibra, and some other provinces of Macedonia. He participated in the First National Liberation Conference (1942). He was a member of the Albanian Communist Party in 1943, member of the General Staff of the National Liberation Army since its formation (1943), member of the General Anti-Fascist National Liberation Council at the II NL Conference of Labinot (1943), member of the National Anti-Fascist Council and the National Anti-Fascist Liberation Committee at the Përmet Congress (1944). After the liberation, he helped in the construction and operation of the structures of the Albanian state, being Minister of Internal Affairs (1944-1946), Minister without portfolio (1946-1948), chairman of the control commission of the Labor Party of Albania (1948-1949). Member of the Central Committee since the IV Congress of the Labor Party of Albania (1956). Member of the People’s Assembly in all legislatures. Haxhi Lleshi was imprisoned from 24.05.1996 to 25.07.1996. He passed away in 1998. (In the photo: Haxhi Lleshi)
