Kurt Kola

Kurt Kola was born in the village of Macukull of Mat. He was interned alongside his family from Burreli to Berat, Tepelena and Kuçovo, from May 10, 1945 to May 14, 1954, and in Plug of Lushnja, from 1954 to 1975. On July 5, 1975, by Decision no. 97, the District Court of Lushnja declared him guilty of “propaganda against people’s power” and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment. He was arrested again in 1977, and on August 8 of the same year, by Decision no. 45, the District Court of Lushnja declared him guilty of “agitation and propaganda against people’s power” and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment. Eventually, he was sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment. He was arrested for the third time in 1990, and on September 28 of the same year, with decision no. 237, the District Court of Elbasan declared him guilty of “agitation and propaganda against people’s power” and sentenced him to 8 years of imprisonment. In March 1993, he was elected president of the National Association of Former Political Prisoners of Albania, and in 1998, president of the Institute for the Integration of Former Political Prisoners, a position he held until 2002.
