Petraq Pilika

Petraq Pilika, mathematician, professor, academic, Teacher of the People, was born in Korça. He graduated from the National Lyceum (French) in his hometown. He actively participated in the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Movement from its beginnings to the National Liberation Anti-Fascist War. He graduated from the mathematics department of “Lomonosov” University in Moscow (1946-1951). In 1951, he was appointed head of the Department of Mathematics and Physics at the Higher Pedagogical Institute of Tirana. With the establishment of the University of Tirana, he was appointed head of the Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Natural Sciences, which he led for 31 years. Petraq Pilika encouraged real scientific research and oriented it in several fields to increase the scientific level of teaching and applications in other fields. Conducted important studies in function theory, published in national and foreign journals. He was a representative of Albania in several international scientific forums and a participant in world mathematics congresses (Nisa, 1970; Helsinki, 1978). He passed away in 2009.
