Saint Teresa acquired the Albanian citizenship. Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, on August 26, 1910, in an Albanian Catholic family. In September 1928, driven by the desire to become a missionary , Gonxhe said goodbye to her paternal home to enter the “Sisters of Loreto” Institute in Ireland. With her humanitarian services, Mother Teresa became the most admired woman in world opinion. Therefore, she was honored with many prizes and high rewards, starting from the “Padmashri”, which was awarded by the President of India (1962) to the “Nobel Peace” prize from the Parliament of Norway (1979). On September 4, 2016, Pope Francis signed the decree of canonization of Mother Teresa, event organized in St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican. The year 2016 was called the “Jubilee Year of Mercy”.
