Sali (Vranishti) Murati was born in Vranisht, Vlora, democratic patriot and fighter against the Ottoman and Italian invaders, commander of detachments, Hero of the People. For his patriotic activity, he was persecuted, arrested and sentenced to severe imprisonment. He escaped from the fortress of Ioannina, where he was serving his sentence. In the years 1908-1909, his squad carried out several actions against the Ottoman posts in Shushicë, Armen and elsewhere, and in August 1912, it opened the Vlora prison. The government of Ismail Qemal Vlora (1912) appointed him commander of public security. As such, he performed important tasks for maintaining the peace of the country, fought against the Greek chauvinists who had infiltrated the southern provinces of the country, and especially in the Delvina basin, against the separatist movement led by Spiro Milo and, together with Çerçiz Topulli, liberated the Borshi Castle. He took part in the Vlora War (1920), at the head of Rrëza’s detachments of 250 people; was wounded in the fighting of Kanina. He participated in the Democratic Revolution of June 1924 and commanded a battalion. War wounds caused his death in 1926. (In the photo: Sali Murati)
