On April 15, 1979 , Montenegro was hit by an earthquake with an intensity of 9.5, magnitude 7.1 (Richter) and with the epicenter in the Adriatic Sea, near Ulcinj. This earthquake was preceded by many foreshocks and followed by many aftershocks, which lasted about a year. This earthquake caused only in Albania: 35 dead, 382 injured, the complete destruction of 2,606 residential houses and social-cultural and industrial facilities, as well as damage to 14,512 houses in the districts of Shkodër, Lezhë, Mirditë, Pukë, etc. (In the photo: Illustrative photo from the 1979 earthquake.)
