On April 18, 1675, in the village of Hora e Arbëreshëve near Palermo (Sicily), Nikollë Brankati (1675-1741), poet, was born. He completed his higher religious studies and served as a priest firstly in his hometown and then in the Arbëresh church in Palermo. He adapted and paraphrased religious songs, he also wrote some original poems, among them some with secular motifs. Nikollë Brankati’s poems, remaining in manuscript, were published by Arbëresh researchers during the 19th and 20th centuries. A good part of them stand out for the lyricism, fluency and beauty of the verse, for the clean and refined language. (In the photo: Hora e Arbëreshëve village near Palermo, Sicily,)
