On April 24, 1906 , Rexhep Krasniqi (1906-1999), political and national education activist, was born in Gjakova. He completed the “Theresianum” lyceum in Vienna and the higher studies for philosophy in Vienna, where in July 1934 he defended his doctorate on the topic “Kongresi i Berlinit dhe Shqipëria Verilindore” (“Congress of Berlin and Northeast Albania”). He settled in Albania and first worked as a professor of geography and history in the high school of Gjirokastra and later he served as the deputy director of that high school. In 1938 he moved to Tirana, as director of Secondary Education; then as an inspector in the Ministry of Education. At the end of 1941, he was appointed director of the “Sami Frashëri” Normal School in Prishtina, where he simultaneously taught the German language. Minister of Education (February-April 1943) in the Government of Maliq Bushati. He participated in the Founding Congress of League II of Prizren and was its vice president for a period. Vice-President of the National Assembly convened during the Nazi occupation, on 6–27.10.1943. On the eve of the country’s liberation, Rexhep Krasniqi left Albania. He stayed in Italy, Syria, Australia, USA, where he was one of the main leaders of the “Shqipëria e Lirë” committee, which he led until 1992. He is the author of a number of articles and works in historiography and collaborator in the newspapers “Kosova”, “Bashkimi i Kombit”, “Lidhja e Prizrenit”, etc. In 1994, he was decorated with the title “Naim Frashëri” of the first class.
