Ukshin Hoti, the political-social activist for the national rights of Albanians in Yugoslavia and of the movement for the Republic of Kosovo, lecturer, and political scientist, mysteriously disappears from the Serbian police after his release from Dubrava prison (Kosovo). He was born in Krushë e Madhe, Rahovec (Kosovo). He attended the normal school in Pristina and continued his higher education in political science, graduating from the University of Zagreb (1968). He defended his master’s thesis on political and international economic relations at the University of Belgrade (1974). He worked at the newspaper “Rilindja” as a commentator on foreign policy (1968); he was a member of the Commission for International Relations of the Socialist People’s Working Alliance of Yugoslavia, secretary of the Secretariat for External Relations of the Executive Council of the Socialist Autonomous Province of Kosovo (1972). Due to disagreements with Belgrade’s political line regarding the rights of Albanians, he resigned (1977). He worked as a lecturer at the Regional Center for Marxism and International Relations at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Pristina (1978–1981). He assisted in establishing the theoretical and practical foundations of Kosovo’s autonomous foreign policy. He specialized in several American universities, such as Chicago, Harvard (Boston), and Washington D.C. He was the first professor at the University of Pristina to openly support the political demand of student demonstrators in 1981 to grant Kosovo the status of a republic within the Yugoslav Federation. He was arrested and sentenced to 9 and a half years in prison, of which he served 3 and a half years. In 1990, he was engaged in Ljubljana in the magazines:”Alternativa”, “Republika”, “Demokracia Autentike”. He was imprisoned in 1992 and 1994. Since 16.05.1999, when his sentence expired, Serbian security authorities have not provided any information about his fate. He is the author of the books “Lufta e Ftohtë dhe Detanta” (The Cold War and Detente) (Pristina, 1976), “Filozofia politike e çështjes shqiptare” (Political Philosophy of the Albanian Issue) (Tirana, 1995), co-author of the book ” Bisedë përmes hekurash” (Conversation in between bars) (Tirana, 2000) and a large number of scientific articles.
