Haxhi Dede Baba Edmond Brahimaj, Bektashian World Grandfather, was born in Tirana. His parents were devout believers of Bektashism, originating from the village of Brataj in Vlora. After completing his 8-year primary education, he continued his studies at the military high school “Skënderbej,” where he achieved high results, earning him the right to pursue higher military education at the Academy of Land Forces, now known as “Skënderbej.” From 1982 until 1990, he served in various military positions in Burrel and Peshkopi. With the revival of Bektashism in the late ’90s, he and other clerics and believers participated in the Organizational Council of the World Headquarters of Bektashism. In early 1991, at his request, he was released from military duty and began organizing the Bektashi Community. On May 16, 1996, he was consecrated with the order of “Dervish” and immediately assigned to the Bektashi Grandeur of Korçë. His tireless work for the continuity and revival of Bektashi faith in various regions made him decreed with the title “Baba” on April 13, 1997, and appointed as the first deputy to the World Chief of Bektashism, Haxhi Dede Reshat Bardhi. In this high position, his contribution has been invaluable, especially in conceiving, preparing, and realizing three consecutive congresses of Bektashism. In March 2006, he was appointed the Bektashi Grandeur’s judge in Macedonia. In 2004, for his valuable contribution, the Municipal Council of Korçë County honored him with the highest title, “Honor of Korçë County.” Since 1992 and continuing, Haxhi Baba Edmond Brahimaj has participated in training sessions of prestigious international organizations, doctrinal symposiums, and various activities with a religious, humanitarian, and social character, where he has also lectured, sharing the voice and experiences of Bektashi communities worldwide. On June 11, 2011, he was elected to the high position of World Chief of Bektashis. In his years as the World Chief of Bektashis, His Eminence Haxhi Dede Edmond Brahimaj has worked diligently, continuing the Bektashi tradition in institutional relations both within and outside the country.
