Vehbi Skenderi, poet, passed away in Switzerland. He was born in Strelcë of Gora (Korçë), in 1927. He participated in the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War. After the liberation, he worked as an editor in various press organizations and the “Naim Frashëri” publishing house (1949-1968). In 1968, he was sent for “re-education” as a worker at the Vau of Deja hydropower plant. He returned as an editor at the “Naim Frashëri” publishing house in 1971; since 1997, he has lived in Switzerland. In the first phase of Vehbi Skenderi’s creativity, the favorite theme of his poetry was the life and psychology of working people, treated with a lyricism that merges with a concreteness of details. After the 90sof the 20th century, Vehbi Skenderi began to deal with existential themes, renewing his creativity with a universal philosophical dimension and psychological depth. He has published several volumes of poetry, such as: “Morning again” (1973), “The years are ringing” (1984), “We pretend” (1995), etc. (In the photo: Vehbi Skenderi)
