Esat Myftari, diplomat, MP, translator, publicist and researcher of international relations, was born in Peja, Kosovo. After completing two years at the Faculty of Law in Belgrade, he was forced to abandon his studies and work for a year as a journalist in the daily “Rilindja” of Kosovo. In 1963, he escaped to Albania, where he served as a teacher in Shengjin in Lezha for several years. He was arrested in 1976, and by decision no. 73, dated July 22nd, 1976, the District Court of Lezha declared him guilty of “agitation and propaganda” and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment and confiscation of property. He was released in 1985 and until the arrival of pluralism , he worked as a worker at the Paper Factory in Lezhë. In 1992, he was elected director of the Directorate of Diaspora at Albania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He later served as a diplomat in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, until he retired.
